Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and hand back on the next request. It is the only way a website can recognise that two requests came from the same person, which is why signing in needs one.

That is also why cookies have the reputation they do: the same mechanism that keeps you signed in can be used to follow you between sites. Nothing on this site does that. Every cookie below is set by teachme.lk itself, for this site alone, and no third party sets one here.

Four, and this is all of them. Two of them only exist once you have signed in; one only exists once you have opened a dashboard; the last one appears when you answer the banner.

Signing in may also set a short-lived companion cookie from the same authentication library, for example one that remembers not to keep you signed in when you have asked it not to. They behave like the two above: essential, first-party, and gone when the session is.

Essential

The site does not work without them. The two session cookies are the whole of this category: refusing them means refusing to be signed in, which is what signing out is for. They are not offered as a choice because a switch that cannot honestly be flicked is not a choice.

Preference

They remember a decision you made so that you do not have to make it twice. Nothing in this category identifies you, and nothing in it leaves your browser except to be handed back to us.

There is no third category on this site. No measurement cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party cookies of any kind.

For the avoidance of doubt, and because it is unusual:

• No Google Analytics, and no analytics of any other brand.
• No advertising or retargeting pixels: no Meta, no Google Ads, no ad network.
• No session recorders or heatmap tools.
• No social media tracking. The share buttons on a guide are ordinary links with icons we drew ourselves, so opening an article tells nobody but us.
• No cookies set by anyone other than teachme.lk.

The banner still asks, and the reason is on the record: if measurement is ever added, it will be gated on the answer you gave rather than switched on over the top of it.

The banner appears once, you answer it, and it stops appearing. To change the answer, use the control below. It forgets your choice, and the banner comes back so you can give a different one.

Clearing your choice does not sign you out, and it does not remove the two essential cookies. Nothing on this site is currently gated on the answer, so today the practical effect is only that we ask again.

Every browser can block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. You can clear teachme.lk's cookies specifically, or block them all.

What breaks if you block ours:

• You cannot sign in. The sign-in will appear to succeed and the next page will not know you.
• Anything behind an account (saved listings, your enquiries, your settings) becomes unreachable.
• The dashboard sidebar forgets how you left it, and the cookie banner returns on every visit, because the cookie that records your answer is the one being blocked.

Browsing the directory, reading a guide and searching for a course all work perfectly well with cookies switched off entirely.

The date at the top of the page is the date of the current version. A cookie added to this site is a cookie added to the table above in the same change, so the list and the site do not drift apart.
