Terms of Use

TeachMe is a course directory for Sri Lanka. We publish listings for degrees, diplomas, professional qualifications and short courses, alongside scholarships, education events and written guides, so that somebody deciding what to do next can see the options in one place with the fees, the durations and the intakes on them.

These terms are the agreement between you and TeachMe, of St/Joseph lane, Sillalai, Pandatherippu, Sri Lanka. They cover teachme.lk and everything on it: the course, scholarship and event listings, the guides, the EduExpo pages, your account if you make one, and the dashboards used by institutes and by our own staff.

By browsing the site you accept these terms. By creating an account you accept them again, explicitly, with a tick box. If you do not accept them, the site is free to leave and nothing here obliges you to stay.

How we handle personal information is not in this document. That is the Privacy Policy, and what we store in your browser is the Cookie Policy. Both are part of this agreement.

This is the most important section on the page, so it is near the top rather than buried at the bottom.

We are a directory

We collect information about courses, scholarships and events from the institutes and organisations that run them, and we present it so it can be compared.

We are not an institute

We do not teach, examine, accredit, admit or award anything. We have no campus and no students of our own.

We are not your agent

We do not act for you in an application. When you send an enquiry you are contacting the institute. We are the envelope, not the correspondent.

We decide nothing

Whether you are offered a place, what you are charged, whether an intake runs and whether a scholarship is awarded are decisions made entirely by the institute or the funder.

Listing information reaches us in two ways: an institute enters and maintains it through their own dashboard, or our staff enter it from what the institute has published. In both cases the institute is the source.

We check what we can and we correct what we are told about. What we cannot do is guarantee that a fee published here is the fee you will be quoted, that an intake listed for March will open in March, or that an entry requirement has not changed since it was entered. Institutes change these things, and they do not always tell us when they do.

The same goes for scholarships. Closing dates move, funds run out, and eligibility is set by the funder. Treat a scholarship listing as a pointer to the funder's own announcement, not as a substitute for it.

If something on a listing is wrong, tell us at hello@teachme.lk and we will check it with the institute. Corrections are the fastest thing we do.

You can use most of this site without an account. You need one to save listings, to keep a record of the enquiries you have sent, and to manage your own details.

• Give a real name and an email address you actually control. We send a code to it before the account works, so an address that is not yours simply will not sign in.
• One person, one account. Do not share your password, and do not sign in as somebody else, including as your own child or student, who can have an account of their own.
• Anything done through your account is treated as done by you, unless you tell us it was not.
• If you think somebody else is in your account, change your password and sign the other devices out from your account settings, then tell us.

You must be at least 16 to create an account. If you are under 18, read section 5 with a parent or guardian before you send an enquiry, because an enquiry hands your contact details to a third party.

An institute account is different: it is held for an organisation, and whoever holds it is agreeing to these terms on that organisation's behalf and confirming they are entitled to.

An enquiry form on a course or a scholarship, and a registration form on an event, both do the same thing: they hand your details to somebody else so that somebody else can reply to you.

1. 1You fill in your name, your email, your phone number and whatever you want to ask.
2. 2We store that enquiry and pass it to the institute or organiser it was addressed to.
3. 3They contact you directly, on their own terms and at their own speed.
4. 4You can see what you have sent from your account. They see it in theirs.

Two consequences are worth being plain about. First, we cannot make anybody reply. A listed institute that ignores its enquiries is a problem we will chase, but not one we can promise to fix. Second, once your details are with an institute, that institute is responsible for what it does with them, under its own privacy policy rather than ours. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is passed on.

Do not use these forms to send anything you would not want a stranger at an admissions desk to read, and do not send somebody else's details as if they were your own.

The site is free to use and open to read. The list below is short, and it is about things that actually cause damage rather than anything an ordinary visitor could do by accident.

• Do not copy the listings in bulk. Scraping, crawling for extraction, or systematically downloading the catalogue to republish it elsewhere is not on, whether it is done by hand or by a script.
• Do not send fake enquiries or registrations, and do not fill a form with somebody else's details.
• Do not use anything you find here (an institute's address, a student's phone number) to send marketing, spam or bulk messages.
• Do not impersonate an institute, a member of our staff, or another person.
• Do not try to reach parts of the site that are not yours: other people's accounts, another institute's dashboard, the admin tools, or the database behind them.
• Do not upload anything unlawful, defamatory or infringing somebody else's copyright, and nothing built to damage a system that receives it.
• Do not interfere with how the site runs: no denial-of-service, no vulnerability probing without asking us first, no automated load an ordinary visitor would not generate.

If you have found a security problem we would much rather hear about it than not. Write to hello@teachme.lk with enough detail to reproduce it, and give us a fair chance to fix it before telling anybody else.

This section is for institutes and only for institutes. If you are a student, skip it.

An institute dashboard lets you publish course listings, answer enquiries and manage your profile. In return you agree that:

• Everything you publish is accurate when you publish it, and you keep it that way: fees, intakes, durations, and any claim about accreditation or recognition especially.
• You are entitled to publish it: the course is yours to offer, and the logos, photographs and text are yours to use.
• You will not describe a qualification as accredited, recognised or affiliated when it is not, or overstate an awarding body's involvement.
• You will handle enquiries lawfully. Replying to a student who asked about a course is what their details were given to you for; adding them to a marketing list is not.
• You will not use the dashboard to contact a student about anything other than what they enquired about.

You keep ownership of what you publish. By publishing it here you give us a licence to display it on this site, in its search results and listings, and to reproduce it where we are promoting the directory, for as long as the listing is live and no longer.

The design of this site, its code, its name, its logo and the guides we write are ours. The listings belong to the institutes that supplied them.

You are welcome to read, print and share any page here, and to quote a guide with a link back to it. What you may not do is republish the guides wholesale, present our listings as a directory of your own, or use the TeachMe name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse something we have not.

The directory is full of links that leave it: institute websites, scholarship announcements, awarding-body pages, and the Google Forms used for EduExpo registration and stall bookings.

We do not control any of them, and we are not responsible for what they contain, what they collect, or what they do with it. Once you have followed a link away from teachme.lk, the terms and the privacy policy that apply are theirs.

We work to keep the site up, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption, that it will be free of errors, or that any particular feature will still exist next year. Things break, hosts have outages, and we take the site down for maintenance.

We may add, change or remove features without notice. Where a change affects something you have already sent us (an enquiry, a registration, a saved list) we will not delete it without telling you.

This section does legal work rather than explaining something, so it is written carefully. It also follows directly from section 2: we are a directory, and we cannot answer for decisions made by the institutes we list.

To the fullest extent the law allows, TeachMe is not liable for:

• any loss arising from a course, scholarship or event that turned out to differ from its listing, fees, duration, intake dates, entry requirements, accreditation or recognition included;
• anything an institute, funder or organiser does or fails to do, including failing to reply to an enquiry, cancelling an intake, or refusing an application;
• decisions you make on the basis of information published here, including a decision to enrol, to pay a fee, or to turn down another offer;
• loss of data, loss of an opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss;
• anything that happens on a website we linked to.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

You can stop using the site whenever you like, and you can ask us to close your account by writing to hello@teachme.lk. What happens to your information afterwards is set out in the Privacy Policy.

We can suspend or close an account being used to break section 6, one impersonating somebody, or one publishing listings we have good reason to believe are misleading. Where it is a first problem and an honest one, we will ask you to put it right before we do anything else.

These terms are governed by the law of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.

If a court finds one clause here unenforceable, the rest of the document stands.

We update this document when the site changes, or when we are told something in it is unclear. The effective date at the top of the page is the date of the current version.

For a change that materially affects you (a new obligation, a narrower right) we will say so on the site before it takes effect, and email account holders where it warrants it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.

One desk answers all of it: a question about these terms, a correction to a listing, or a complaint.
